This book follows the group show organised in Annet-sur-Marne in July 2022, and curated by Djeff.  Amongst a selection of artists, you will find in more detail the works «Victor» and «Abstract Victor» specially made for this exhibition and which are now part of the collection of the Fondation Vasarely.

    ENG.  If Victor Vasarely left his mark on the kinetic years of the 1960s and 1970s, it is not only because he created a visual language that embodied the very idea of modernity or paved the way for the optical art movement – whose legacy is still very much alive today, as evidenced by the selection of artists in this book.

It is primarily because he was driven by a vision of the role of art, aware of the responsibility of the artist as well as that of the architect to promote art in society, and he conceived creation in a holistic way.

Vasarely pursued a single objective based on generosity, as he summarized it:
"It is nobler to give to everyone than to monopolize everything for oneself and for one’s close ones."

Si Victor Vasarely a marqué de son sceau cinétique les années 1960 et 1970, ce n’est pas uniquement parce qu’il a créé un langage plastique qui a incarné l’idée même de modernité ou qu’il a ouvert la voie au mouvement de l’art optique – dont l’héritage est encore très vivant aujourd’hui, comme en témoigne la sélection d’artistes dans ce livre.

C’est surtout parce qu’il a été porté par une vision du rôle de l’art, conscient de la responsabilité de l’artiste tout comme celle de l’architecte de promouvoir l’art dans la cité, et qu’il a pensé la création de façon globale.

Jusqu’au bout, Vasarely a poursuivi un seul objectif basé sur la générosité comme il le résume : « Il est plus noble de donner à tout le monde que d’accaparer tout pour soi et pour ses proches. »
